MEEKER I A Meeker man was killed early Saturday morning in a single-vehicle accident along Highway 64 between Rangely and Meeker, the public information officer of the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) released Monday morning.
According to the public information officer on duty, a 19-year-old man, tentatively identified as Tayler Slaugh of Meeker, died at the site of the accident at mile marker 45 on Highway 64, after his 1994 GMC pickup, being driven eastbound toward Meeker, failed to complete a right hand turn, proceeded to travel off the left side of highway, traveled down a steep embankment then hit another embankment head on.
The vehicle reportedly came to a rest on its wheels and was facing east.
Meeker CSP officer Mark Patterson was the first officer to respond to the accident, reported at 3:58 a.m., and due to the nature of the accident, CSP officer Sgt. Aaron Lane of Fruita was called in.
Slaugh was the only person involved in the accident, and he was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt.
According to the PIO, neither drugs, nor alcohol, nor speed are considered to be factors in the accident.
A celebration of Slaugh’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the 4-H building in Meeker.
