MEEKER I A 58-year-old local man was in critical condition last week at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction after what authorities believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the stomach.
At 4:24 p.m. Sept 8, the Rio Blanco Sheriff’s Office dispatcher received a report saying a man had left his residence with the intentions of committing suicide. Local law enforcement began a search.
The man was located at about 5 p.m. by Richard Bland, an ExxonMobil employee, in the Piceance Creek area, with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He had been shot with a .357 magnum revolver.
The man was taken by ambulance to Pioneers Medical Center and then airlifted to St. Mary’s. The Rio Blanco Sheriff’s Office investigation is ongoing; however, foul play is not suspected. He has been released from intensive care and is in serious condition.
THIS IS A TOTAL INVASION OF PRIVACY!!! You have no right to write your opinion of what you may think happen until it is proven to be the facts and even in that instance it is not the publics business. Of course you have the right of Freedom of Speech but only if the facts are proven to be correct and as you stated this issue is still under investigation. Not to mention the fact that as small as Meeker Colorado is, this article is only destructive to someone who is fighting for their life as well as their family. You weren’t there you didn’t not talk to my father or anyone in the family. I feel sorry for you that you cant find any better things to write about. How about writing a story of good like our solider’s in Iraq instead of prying into someones private life. I pray that something of this magnitude never happens to you or your family and the first thing some noisy reporter wants to do is to humiliate you or your family instead of leaving it alone!
