MEEKER | The second week of Mountain West Youth Football had the Mustangs hosting home games at Starbuck Stadium.
The third/fourth grade Meeker Gold team took to the field first against a tough Rifle opponent. Looking to avenge a loss last week by the Meeker Black team, the Gold squad produced a balanced game and improved their record to 2-0.
Third/fourth Meeker Black took on the Rangely Panthers in a great matchup. Rangely proved to be the more determined team to get a win in the first game of their season.
The fifth/sixth grade Mustangs played host to New Castle in the final game of the day. Both teams came out firing away, but the much bigger New Castle squad was able to control both sides of the ball and handing Meeker their second loss. Coaches are promising a practice week of conditioning, basics and teamwork.
Next week will see Rangely coming to town for games against the third/fourth grade Meeker Gold, and the fifth/sixth grade teams. With the Meeker Cowboys playing Limon at 1 p.m., please look for the Mustangs’ games later at 5 and 7 p.m. Please bring the whole family and enjoy concession stand goodies during the games.
