MEEKER — The Town of Meeker’s planning commission needs a new member. The board of trustees planned to appoint a new member to fill the vacancy left by Martha Griffin at the June 2 meeting, but no letters of interest had been received. Applicants need to be registered voters, 18 years of age or older, who have lived within the town limits for at least year.
The planning commission meets on the second and fourth Mondays of the month at 5:30 p.m. to consider variance requests, special review requests, subdivision applications, zoning changes, the town’s comprehensive plan, and so forth. Interested individuals are asked to submit a letter of interest to Town Hall.
The Town of Meeker and Rio Blanco County got some good economic news from the state last week. Town Administrator Sharon Day said they were notified that a state environmental project will fund $55,000 toward the town and county joint energy audit. The funds for the supplemental project come from fines assessed for “environmental issues” on a company that was working in Rio Blanco County.
Town Public Works Super-intendent Russell Overton updated the board on the recent reports of drastic reductions in water use, attributed to the downturn in energy development.
“Our flow meter was reading low,” Overton said. “It was about 9 million gallons short in May. We’re now taking readings off the wells.”
The flow meter will need to be replaced, Overton said. The system, which was installed in 1975, “has served its purpose.”
The board of trustees approved a $3,000 donation to Meeker Fire and Rescue for the fireworks fund.
According to Todd Morris, all the money for the show comes from the community.
“This year it’s a $12,000 show, we get it for $10,000. It’s a huge thing for our community.”
