MEEKER | Meeker was represented at the state cross country meet on Saturday by two Cowboy runners, Austin Russell and Julia Eskelson. Both are seniors and veterans of the course at Norris Penrose Event Center in Colorado Springs. Russell competed in the 2A boys’ race amid some very tough competition and dropped 40 seconds from his previous time on this course. He finished in 6th place in 17:00. The 2A girls’ race was the last of the day and Eskelson was more than a minute and a half faster than last year, finishing in 20:13, and 4th place. Both races had just over 100 competitors. “I am so proud of our Cowboys!” said coach Marty Casey. “Austin and Julia ran great races, with good pacing and strong finishes. This is what they have been working for all season and it was great to see them on the podium.”
