RBC | At a special meeting held prior to their work session Tuesday night, the Meeker Board of Education accepted the resignation of Barone Middle School and Meeker High School choir and band director Jeff Hemingson. Hemingson delivered his letter of resignation, “effective immediately,” on Jan. 24.
Hemingson, who is from Woodland Park and studied music education at Western State Colorado University in Gunnison, indicated he had been dealing with health issues. He said he was “deeply saddened to have to leave Meeker schools. I have appreciated the support from the administration, staff, students and community. It was a privilege to work for such a fine school district.”
Hemingson is especially known for the fine results he produced with small numbers in the high school choir. Last June he took a group of 12 Meeker choir members to join a choir of some 180 others from two other high schools and two colleges to perform a concert in New York City’s Carnegie Hall.
Retired long-term district music instructor and school board member Tom Allen has been filling in for Hemingson. Brianna Williams, the annual community Christmas choir director, and now one of three sixth-grade classroom teachers, has accepted the appointment to replace Hemingson. She has been orienting her replacement and is expected to make the transition by next week. The BOE approved former Oklahoma teacher and long-time Meeker resident Georgann Amack, to replace Williams until the end of the school year.
The BOE also approved Matt Gregory as the new district food services director.
