MEEKER I The Meeker School Board announced a grant award of $46,400 from the Morgridge Family Foundation in Denver at its Aug. 11 meeting.
The grant will provide additional interactive SMART Boards for all schools in the district.
“With the boards, we’ll get an excellent five-year warranty and staff training, too,” said board president Mary Strang.
Up to $76,625 was approved to lay three feet of paving on Bob Tucker Drive. Original estimations were based on two feet, but the base was much thinner than normal.
“Had we not done so, the probability of the road needing significant repair in just a few years was great,” Strang said.
CSAP and ACT scores were reported. Overall, Meeker ISD was proficient. In addition, the district received Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), which is a federal measure of success. Meeker Elementary was recognized at a press conference at the Colorado Department of Education due to sustained growth over the 60th percentile for the last three years in at least one subject. The CDE congratulated the staff in their efforts to continue to reach high levels of performance each year.
In other business, Jennifer Steinacher was hired as a kindergarten teacher. Coaching contracts were awarded to: Kelcee Vroman, JV volleyball assistant; Roxie Chintala, C-squad volleyball assistant; Kris Casey, high school cross country head coach; Greg Ching, high school football volunteer assistant; Klark Kindler, high school golf head coach; Jason Browning, middle school football head coach; Travis Mobley, middle school football assistant coach; Jamie Rogers eighth-grade volleyball coach; and Ivy Abshire, seventh-grade volleyball coach. The district has an open janitor position.
The next board meeting will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 1.
