MEEKER I Mark Meyer, the superintendent of schools in Meeker, kicked off the open public forum at the Meeker Board of Education meeting Tuesday evening by reading a letter of resignation to the board, the few teachers and a gathering of citizens who were present.
Meyer said his resignation will become effective June 30, the end of the current school year.
Meyer said he wrote his resignation letter with “mixed emotions” as he believes he has had “the best experiences possible in this district and will always hold the students, staff and community dearly in my heart.”
Meyer said that he and his wife, Jackie, “feel the need to move closer to our three kids,” especially because “we are going to become grandparents in June.”
Meeker Board of Education President Bill deVergie said he is very sorry to see Meyer leave as “he has done a good job keeping the district on track and making progress” and that he totally respects Meyer’s decision and understands the pull of family.
deVergie said the board hopes to advertise the position next week, hopes to have candidates to vet by mid-March with interviews scheduled by mid-April.
If this plan is maintained, deVergie said he hopes the board can choose a new superintendent by late May.
The board members said they are very appreciative that Meyer had given them so much lead time.
