MEEKER I The town of Meeker has announced the dates for the upcoming 2016 Farmers’ Market, starting in June.
The market, new this year, will be held on Saturdays, once a month, June through September from 8 a.m. to noon. The dates will be: June 11, July 23, Aug. 13, and Sept. 10. The centrally located market will be held outside the Rio Blanco County Courthouse on Main Street between Fifth and Sixth streets.
The market will feature local Colorado vendors ranging from produce to various food products, grass-fed and sustainable meats, handmade artisan goods like soaps and personal care items and homemade all natural gourmet treats.
Each market date was carefully selected to coordinate around a local community event to help drive traffic. These local events and the 2016 Meeker Farmers Market are part of the Meeker agri-tourism community outreach program that aims to enhance Meeker’s tourism, making it a destination location. “In our strategic planning for the Heritage Culture Center, we set several agri-tourism goals; I’m so happy that a vibrant Meeker Farmers’ Market emerged as a priority project,” commented Ellene Meece, president of the Rio Blanco County Historical Society and chair of the Heritage Culture Center Committee.
The local events surrounding the market will have a variety of fun activities for the whole family to enjoy.
“We believe this summer market will bring visitors to our beautiful rural town and provide a service to our citizens as well,” Meece commented.
The first market will be Saturday, June 11, and directly following the market in the afternoon will be the “Meekerpalooza” celebration with live music, games and fun activities at Ute Park.
