MEEKER I Eight current teachers were issued class reassignments at the Meeker School Board meeting on May 14, and the trustees also announced there were two new hires in the district for the 2013-14 school year.
“This is early-on in the reassignment process, so any changes announced here are subject to change,” Meeker School Superintendent Susan Goettel said.
Jamie Rogers, who served this past year as half-time kindergarten teacher at Meeker Elementary School, becomes a kindergarten/Title I teacher; and Shana Holliday, an MES kindergarten teacher this current year will be a music teacher at MES for the 2013-14 school year.
Jennifer Turner, a current seventh-grade language arts/social studies teacher at Barone Middle School, will become a computer technology teacher at the elementary school; middle school physical education/health instructor Jason Browning has been reassigned to the middle school’s language arts/social studies department; and fellow Barone instructor Zach Clatterbaugh, who teaches seventh-grade math and science, has been reassigned to Meeker High School, where he will teach industrial arts.
Meeker High School math teacher Naomi Etchart has been reassigned as a seventh-grade math and technology instructor; high school agriculture instructor Trina Smith has been reassigned as a business/media teacher at the high school; and Meeker High School Athletic Director/industrial arts instructor Brett Steinacher will be full-time athletic director at the high school.
Under new hires, Ben Quinn has been hired as Meeker High School art instructor and Cortney Aldridge will instruct consumer and family sciences.
“All of this was done with the benefit of the students in mind,” Goettel said. “Possibly not everyone is happy with the moves, but this was all done to make the overall district stronger and more responsive to the students.”
In addition to the teacher reassignments, increasing class numbers have dictated that there will be three second-grade teachers and three first-grade teachers for 2013-14 at Meeker Elementary School.
