RBC I Undefeated Barone Middle School will host Saturday’s league tournament.
Meeker’s eighth-grade A team (6-0) beat Steamboat Springs 51-21 in its final tuneup last week, while the B team won 41-20.
Also in girls’ junior high basketball, Rangely’s eighth-grade A team beat Craig 28-22 last Saturday, with Hailee Russell scoring 22 of her team’s points.
“We worked a lot on boxing out and rebounding last week in practice and apparently the girls finally realized the importance of getting a body on someone and crashing the boards,” said Rangely coach Jessica Fortunato.
The win gave Rangely a second-place finish in the league, going into the end-of-season tournament this Saturday. Rangely will open against Steamboat Springs.
In seventh-grade action, Rangely’s A and B teams lost 14-13 and 13-4 to Craig.
“The A game was a heartbreaker,” Rangely coach Jared Heaps said. “The girls played their best game all season.”
Rangely’s junior high teams will play Hayden today, in its final tuneup before the league tournament.
Meeker’s seventh-graders also lost both of its games last week, 16-12 and 22-10.
“The (flu) bug hit our team. Most of the girls weren’t feeling well,” said Meeker coach Ivy Abshire. “But we’re rested and feeling better.’…”
