MEEKER I The Meeker High School varsity volleyball team opened up its 2016 season on its home court with a sweeping victory over the North Park Wildcats.
The lady Cowboys will take their show on the road this weekend, as they travel to Kremmling to play West Grand, Gilpin County, Peyton and Sanford.
“We played as a team and had good communication throughout the match,” Meeker High School head volleyball coach Janae Stanworth said of her team’s opening match.
Meeker dominated the Wildcats, winning the match in three straight games: 25-9, 25-12 and 25-13.
“Our servers did a great job of putting pressure on North Park,” coach Stanworth said.
Meeker seniors Peyton Burke and Maggie Phelan led the team serving. Burke served 22 times with six aces and Phelan had 16 serves. Senior Reese Pertile had eight with one ace and sophomore Kassie Luce had 11.
Luce’s twin sister, Krissie, led the team with eight kills, Pertile had seven and Kassie finished with four.
Krissie Luce and Burke each had 10 digs, Phelan finished with eight, Pertile and junior Avery Watt each had six and senior Halle Ahrens led the team with three blocks.
“It’s great to see where we are now and know what we need to work on,” coach Stanworth said.
