MEEKER | It was another early morning road trip for the Cowboy cross country team as they traveled to Eagle for the Eagle Valley Cross Country Invitational. One of the largest meets that the Cowboys had participated in, there were 231 boys, and 195 in the girls racing.
“Although it is a golf course meet, and mostly grass, it is fairly flat compared to some of our earlier meets,” commented head coach Marty Casey. The large field of runners brought some great competition here, pushed the runners and the Cowboys’ times reflect that. Shane Kobald was top runner for the boys with a time of 20 minutes 56 seconds, he came in 115th and Brighton Bair for the girls took 80th place with a time of 23:31:90.
“All of our Cowboys who ran at this meet had their best times of the season; we are looking to build upon that, and keep dropping those times as we move into the second half of our regular season competition,” Casey said. There are four regular season meets remaining before regionals and Casey finished by saying “If we keep working hard, we should be ready to be competitive at regionals in October.”
Fruita hosts the next meet, the Anna Banana Invitational, on Friday at the Snooks Bottom Open Space. Temperatures are supposed to cool down Thursday just in time for the meet; races to begin at 4 p.m.
