MEEKER I The Youth Basketball Association (YBA) has been restructured and will be known as Meeker Youth Basketball (MYB) effective in October, announced ERBM Recreation and Park District Recreation Manager Nicole Dupire.
Third- and fourth-grade girls will play MYB from Oct. 12 to Dec. 18 (excluding Nov. 23 and Nov. 25). There will not be a recreation district-sponsored basketball program for third- and fourth-grade girls from January to March, as in the past. MYB will be available to third- and fourth-grade grade boys and fifth- and sixth-grade girls and boys from January to March. (Details will be in the January-March brochure.)
Third- and fourth-grade girls participating in MYB will be part of a developmental league with Rifle. A few games will be played in Rifle. No recreation district transportation will be provided. MYB will be parent coached with assistance from high school players. Volunteer parent coaches are needed to ensure the success of this new program. Contact Nicole at 878-3403 ext. 217 to volunteer.
Registration is now open for third- and fourth-grade girls MYB. Cost is $25 ,which includes a jersey. Practices will be held at the Meeker Elementary School gym from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Games will be Saturday mornings. Dates, times and location will be announced after the season begins. The registration deadline is Friday, Oct. 22.
Also new, and running concurrently with third- and fourth-grade girls MYB, is open-gym basketball for boys and girls in grades first through eighth. This supervised program will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Oct. 12 through Dec. 9, excluding Nov. 23 and Nov. 25, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Meeker Elementary gym. Cost is $25 for all sessions or $2 per time.
