MEEKER I The Meeker Community Wrestling Club has 67 kids out for youth wrestling this season, and 42 members wrestled in the first tournament of the season in Rangely on the first day of spring break.
“The kids had a great day Saturday,” youth coach Carl Padilla said. “We have a really young team, but I was surprised by the turnout since it was spring break for us. Forty-two of our kids wrestled in Rangely and 23 placed in the top four.”
Meeker finished with six champs, seven runners-up, four consolation champs and six fourth-place finishers.
Brothers Cade and Connor Blunt won their brackets, Connor double bracketed (also wrestled in older age group) and won both brackets. Ridge Williams, Ty and Reed Goedert also won gold medals.
Domonic Wyatt, Elijah and Noah LeBlanc, Dillon Pretti, Levi Caufield, Kesston Hobbs and Clay Randall all won silver medals. Connor Padilla, Snowdon Williams, Kelton Turner, Dillon Hobbs and Dublin Price, Dathan Dade, Liam Deming, Wil Schwartz, Austin Lopex and Finley Deming all placed fourth.
Aksel Jonsson, Anders Jonsson, Wyatt Ross, Tristin Rollins, Wyatt Rollins, Jace Vroman, Coy Richardson, Cody Richardson, Nathan Smith, Justin George, Jake Blazon, Trapper McGruder, Jon Baker, Parker Pontine, Kaleb Nielson, Teagan Sheridan, Rian Hinden, Landin Lopez, Russell McGruder and Dax Sheridan, all wrestled in Rangely but did not place in the top four.
“I was really pleased with how our kids wrestled on Saturday and I’m looking forward to our next tournament in Hayden,” Coach Padilla said. “I would also like to thank all of our parents for getting their kids to practice over spring break and getting them to the tournament in Rangely.”
