MEEKER I The Meeker Peewee wrestlers are winding down their season with the last tournament of the year in Parachute on Saturday.
The young grapplers traveled to Craig on Saturday for the annual Bad Dog Tournament. The number of participants was down some as many of the young Cowboys had wrapped up their season the previous week at the Casey Turner Memorial Tournament in Meeker.
Twenty wrestlers made the trip to Craig and 16 finished in the top four in their weight divisions. The Hobbs brothers, Dillon and Keston, came home with championship trophies as did Reed Goedert, Cade Blunt and Stephen Koenig.
Several wrestlers finished second in the tournament, including Clay Stewart-Randall, Connor Blunt, Kelton Turner, Liam Deming and Colby Clatterbaugh.
The competition proved very tough, and with round-robin brackets they had the maximum number of matches for each kid.
Logging third-place finishes were Levi Caulfield, Parker Pontine and Lane Anderson; and rounding out the placers for Meeker were Dominic Wyatt, William Foster and Robert Foster.
Finley Deming, Coy Richardson, Cooper Michels, and Ashdon Siebert-Garcia also wrestled hard for the Cowboys, but failed to place.
Meeker coach Carl Padilla said, “The kids wrestled well this weekend and we got some wins from first-year wrestlers.”
The team has been working hard all season, and the still-active members are no doubt eager to have one more opportunity to test their skills.
“It is really good to see that the kids are learning and improving week by week,” Padilla said.
He also wanted to thank the parents and volunteers who helped with the tournament in Meeker, which was a huge success with nearly 350 participants.
