MEEKER I The 2013 Peewee Wrestling season came to an end with the team’s final tournament on May 4.
The Grand Valley Grapplers hosted the finale of the Western Slope Wrestling League, providing a well-organized finish to the season, with 55 hooded sweatshirts given to the bracket winners.
Meeker brought 21 wrestlers to Parachute, placing 13 of them in the top three.
Coach Carl Padilla said, “Our season was a success; our first-year wresters ended the season with wins and impressive wins at that.”
He went on to compliment all his wrestlers saying, “Our seasoned wrestlers showed growth by wrestling smart and coming out on top. I’m very proud of our kids, and it was a fun year.”
Winning their final tournament of the season was Reed Goedert, Clay Stewart-Randall, Cade Blunt, Noah LeBlanc, Ty Goedert, Connor Blunt, Keston Hobbs and Ridge Williams.
Second-place finishers were Levi Caulfield, Kelton Turner and Ridge Williams in the 12 and under division. Williams wrestled two brackets to get more matches.
Third-place finishers were Zeek Gianinetti, Dillon Hobbs, Coy Richardson and Stephen Koenig. William Foster, Damon Dade, Liam Deming, Dagon Dade and Robert Foster also wrestled in the final tournament, completing a season of hard work and improvement.
The kids enjoyed their season, Padilla said, and those wrestlers who are interested are invited to join Meeker’s wrestlers in The Midnight Brawl in Grand Junction on June 16.
