Meeker’s After Birth Ball…

A number of dancers stuck around after dinner on Saturday night to enjoy the Harris and Lee Band, which performed at the annual After Birth Ball, which was a fund-raising event for the Meeker High School Chapter of the Future Farmers of America. The event was held at the Fairfield Center in downtown Meeker and served to benefit the FFA as well as to mark the end of the calving and lambing season in the area.

As usual, the After Birth Ball was a success with a good crowd on hand for the annual event, which included a social hour, dinner, a silent auction and a live auction of Meeker High School FFA members, sold to high bidders to turn in some work time for the buyers, and wrapped up with a dance, with music provided by the Harris and Lee Band. All proceeds from the event, held Saturday night at the Fairfield Center, go to support the Meeker FFA and agricultural education.

The highlight of the After Birth Ball was the auctioning of local FFA members with the high bidders getting a team of workers. Above is the Worker Lot No. 7, titled You Can’t Roller Skate in a Buffalo Herd. Bryce Purkey, far right, was the auctioneer and the team of Chase Rule, Hunter Garcia, Sheridan Harvey and Casey Turner (not pictured) drew the highest bid of $660 from Shelton Ranch.
