Mental health trainees sought

RBC I Mind Springs Health, formerly known as Colorado West Regional Mental Health (CWRMH), has been selected to participate in the 2013 class of the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare’s “Adoption of Trauma-Informed-Practices Learning Community.”
That means Mind Springs Health has created a core implementation team to provide oversight for training and implementation of trauma-informed practices and responses across the entire service area, said Margot Robb, the Mind Springs Health director for the Meeker area.
“We will be working with a trainer from the national council and participating in monthly webinar training,” Robb said. “We will also join with 65 other mental health centers across the nation in an interactive web-based dialogue to share lessons learned and to disseminate the knowledge of trauma-informed best practices.

“We will be bringing mental health first aid (MHFA) to Meeker on Oct. 23-24 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Mountain Valley Bank, and up to 30 Meeker residents will have their training paid by the Meeker Human Resources County (HRC) and The United Way of Meeker,” Robb said, adding that a similar class will be held in Rangely in November.
MHFA is an evidenced-based program, she said, adding that statistics indicate that one in five individuals experience a mental health or substance abuse crisis in their lifetime and that most of the population will encounter or has encountered many people experiencing issues.”
MHFA and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) are much the same, Robb said, explaining that both help the general public respond to physical health and mental health issues. MHFA helps people be prepared to respond to a behavioral issue.
This same training has been taught in Aurora (movie theater shooting) and in Boston (Boston Marathon bombing) and following most tragedies that have occurred in the United States, she said.
