Meeker Town Manager Scott Meszaros was fortunate Sept. 23 to be the first person to ever harvest a Shiras moose in the Upper White River Basin/Flattops Wilderness Region. Four permits (two bulls, two cows) were issued this first year of hunting moose in the area and he was the only person to choose the early bow hunt. By the date of his harvest, Meszaros also became the first person to harvest a moose in this area. Meszaros said the moose was the ninth of the 10 Colorado big game species that he has harvested via archery. Only the desert big horn sheep has thus far eluded him.
Don’t think I’d write home to mommy about this “trophy”. I wonder if he’s gonna go after baby rabbits next spring…
