MEEKER I Sophomore golfer Trey Morris, after shooting a career-best 80 to tie for second at the Western Regional, ran into some tough competition — and weather — at the Class 3A state tournament.
Morris, who missed qualifying for state by one shot as a freshman, shot a 96 and 92 at the two-day state tournament Oct. 5-6 in Trinidad, to tie for 61st.
“The weather the first day was awful, with 30 mph winds,” said Meeker golf coach Klark Kindler. “So it was tough scoring conditions.”
Still, Kindler was pleased with the progress made this season by Morris and fellow Meeker golfer Hunter Fellows.
“Both players improved throughout the year,” Kindler said.
Morris was also voted honorable mention all-conference by the Western Slope League’s coaches.
