It was pointed out that more than 30 percent of the graduating seniors received some kind of award or scholarship this year.

MEEKER I Nearly one in three graduates at Meeker High School this year received some kind of scholarship or athletic award at the 2013-14 Meeker Awards Assembly on May 8.
The Encana Scholarship, which provides $10,000 for four years, went to senior Caleb Lange. The scholarship goes to a top student planning to go into the sciences.
The White River Electric Association Youth Leadership scholarships were awarded May 8 to Meeker High School seniors Faith Patterson and Taylor Frantz. They were presented by Anthony Mazzola to the students during the annual awards assembly at Meeker High School, and both Patterson and Frantz received more than one award at the assembly.

Other top-dollar scholarship winners went to the winners of the Masons scholarships: Miranda Mayerle for $3,000, Alexis Gutierrez for $3,000, Aly Ridings for $2,000 and Mariah Jennings for $1,000. Mayerle and Gutierrez received the Colorado Masons Vocational Grants and Ridings and Jensen received the local Masons scholarships while Jake Phelan received the Masonic Arts and Sciences scholarship.

Although the amounts of the Pioneers Healthcare Foundation/Pioneers Medical Center scholarships will not be known until the hospital’s Black and White Ball on Saturday, the winners of the the Pioneers Medical Center and Pioneers Healthcare Foundation scholarships were Terry Gerloff and Taylor Nielson, Willis Begaye and Alexis Gutierrez.
The White River Electric Association Rural Youth Tour scholarship went to Jake Phelan while the White River Electric Association Youth Leadership scholarship went to Faith Patterson and Taylor Frantz.
The VFW Voice of Democracy scholarship was presented to Piper Haney.
Beverly DeVore-Wedding presented Dr. Robert Dorsett with the prestigious NHS Youth Help Award during the May 8 Meeker High School Awards Assembly at MHS. The award goes to an outstanding individual who goes above and beyond normal standards to assist school youth. The assembly nearly filled the MHS auditorium with students and proud parents.

One of the major awards given was the National High School Youth Help Award, which was presented to Dr. Bob Dorsett with a standing ovation.
Other awards included: the Bausch and Lomb Science Award to Linda Olivas and the Colorado Parks and Wildlife River Watch Award to Torrie Gerloff and John Mac Sheridan; and the FBLA Recognition Award was presented to Michael Beck and Taylor France.
Also, the 3-D Design and Fabrication Award went to Sam Lange, Aaron Cochran, Caleb Lange and Michael Beck; the AP Calculus Recognition Award went to Torrie Gerloff, Taylor Neilson and Deena Norell; while the Outstanding Effort in Math and Science Award went to Talia Rosas.
Also, the CNCC Concurrent Enrollment Award went to Taylor Neilson with 58 concurrent college credits from CNCC; the CU Boulder Outstanding Junior Award went to Brittany Smith; the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Award went to Faith Patterson and Nick Burri; the U.S. Marine Corp Scholastic Excellence Award went to JC Henderson; and the U.S Semper Fidelis Music Award was presented to Morgan Tegeder Robb.
The Army Scholar Athlete Award was presented to Dillon Mobley; the U.S. Marine Corp Distinguished Athlete Award went to Aly Ridings; the Unsung Hero Award went to Chevy Mohr; and the Faculty Dependability Award was presented to Willis Begaye.
One of the top on-campus awards, decided by a vote of the staff, looks at honesty, reliability and school representation as well as other criteria, is presented each year to a senior boy and girl. This year’s winners of the Quigg Newton Award were Piper Haney and Bruno Juarez.
