MEEKER I As the temperature rises and the snow begins to melt, spring has started to show its face here in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. And with spring comes one of America’s favorite pastimes. It’s time to get out the mitts, the bats, the bubble gum and the sunflower seeds and get ready for baseball season. With the sound of cleats on concrete, baseballs hitting bats, the smell of freshly cut grass and hot dogs sizzling on the grill, fans cheer baseball’s annual return.
On March 12, the Meeker High School baseball team opened with a scrimmage against Coal Ridge. Although no official score was taken, the Cowboys played well and appear to be strong team, capable of winning many ball games during this season. With this encouraging start, the team anticipates a winning season.
The Cowboys will take to the diamond for the first time this season in Rangley for a doubleheader against the Panthers on Saturday. Coach Browning and the players hope to see their fans come down and support the team this weekend.
