MEEKER I The Meeker High School boys’ basketball team completed an undefeated pre-season run, beating Olathe handily by a 89-54 score on Friday.
The Cowboys came out in the first quarter behind the hot hand of Kash Atwood hitting behind the arc. The team outscored Olathe 22-13 in the first eight minutes.
The Cowboys didn’t cool off going into the second quarter as Raul Lopez found his mark leading Meeker’s 21 point quarter and giving the team a 43-25 lead headed into the half.
The tempo only increased in the second half of the game with the Cowboys running the ball and several players getting involved offensively.
Meeker scored 29 points and held Olathe to only 16. The final period found the pace slowing slightly, but Meeker remained in control, finishing the game with an impressive 89 points.
The pre-season preview looks very good for the Meeker Cowboys, who will come out of the Christmas/New Year’s break and jump right into their regular season play. The team looks to have several offensive weapons and an ability to control the tempo of the game. It is going to be an exciting season as the new year begins.
