MHS Cowgirls “White Out” event a blur

MEEKER — The first annual Cowgirls “White Out” helped put the next notch in the belt.
The tactic was to get more of our community to the gym, give them a taste of Cowgirl Volleyball and entice them to come back for more.
We knew we were going to have to play our best ball for this match both for our fans and to take the next step in going towards the league championship.
In watching the league stats over the past few weeks it appeared this match could determine the league winner. The key to this match for us would be to establish our presence at the net defensively and not back down from their outstanding blockers in Britney Venard and Jordan Rienks.
We dug ourselves a hole in the first game of the match. I don’t like to spot a team any points, but occasionally this team has to fight its way through points to get their nerves and adrenaline settled in. Once these were in check we were on our way.
The adjustments needed to accomplish our game plan were quick and effective. The best summary for this match was this was a team effort.
Every player on the team knows her role and is willing at any time to do what is best for the team. We won in three games 25-19, 25-17, 26-24. The last game was a nail-biter; we were able to come from behind to get the win.
The drive to North Park was — as always in the fall — beautiful. Our play in North Park was a bit closer to average.
We didn’t have our best match against the Wildcats, but again when key players are not feeling their A game someone else always steps in to take care of business. We won in four games 25-15, 21-25, 25-19, 25-12 moving our overall record to 9-5 and 6-0 in league play.
We hope to see you in the gym for our game Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 5 p.m. for a varsity only match against Debeque and Friday, Oct 17 for our “Gold Rush” homecoming game.
