MEEKER | Meeker cross country joined a large and very competitive field of racers on Saturday at Eagle Valley’s meet at the Gypsum Creek Golf Course. The boys raced first this week, and Matthew Beck once again led our squad, setting a personal record of 19:18, and a 55th place finish. Josue Martinez also had his best race of the year at 21:51, dropping minutes from his previous personal record (PR). Ashdon Siebert, Meeker’s third this week, and 200th overall, ran the course in 24:29. Fourteen places behind him, at 25:25, was Greg Jones. Josh Day finished the race in 26:20, also a PR. Zach Harman also dropped several minutes from his best this year, crossing the line in 34:50.
Meeker once again had only one female competitor. Briar Meszaros managed the course in 25:05, finishing 88th out of 150 racers.
“The Eagle Valley meet continues to be a favorite among our runners. We all look forward to this one! I am seeing good progress from our squad,” said coach Marty Casey.
The Cowboys were down a few runners this week due to illness and injury, but hope to have everyone back for Fruita’s Anna Banana Invitational, held at Connected Lakes State Park in Grand Junction Saturday with races beginning at 10 a.m.
