MEEKER I Meeker High School’s cross country team joined 18 other teams in competition at the Gypsum Creek Golf Course for the Eagle Valley Invitational this past Saturday. The boys raced first and Austin Russell was first to the finish for Meeker with a fifth place 17:24. Tannen Kennedy was the next across the line in 19:58 and 76th place. The third scorer for MHS, in 105th place, was Josh Cochran in a time of 20:29. Pake Burke was the next Meeker runner, finishing in 21:22, 131st overall. Clay Anderson was close behind, 139th at 21:32. Christopher Strate was Meeker’s sixth, crossing the line in 23:42 and 188th place. Alex Murray, Josh Dinwiddie, and Zach Harman rounded out the team, with finishes of 28:06, 28:55, and 34:58, in 219th, 221st, and 228th places, respectively. The Meeker boys scored in 11th place as a team. The girls’ race followed, and Briar Meszaros ran a 25:20, good for 84th place. Lacey Ford finished 127th, crossing the line in 27:07. “Eagle Valley has a great course, and a very well run meet. They are an excellent host and the participation this year really reflects that. It was a great opportunity for us to run against some big teams, and that experience should help us throughout the season.” Meeker competed at Fruita’s Anna Banana Invitational on Saturday at Connected Lakes State Park in Grand Junction.
