MEEKER I The Meeker High School Drama Club and International Thespian Society Troupe 1284 will present the classic musical “The Wizard of Oz” on April 15 and 16 at the Meeker High School auditorium.
The performances begin at 7 p.m. on April 15 and at 3 p.m. on April 16, and the public is invited.

Club/play directors are Gary and Laurie Zellers; Shana Holliday serves as musical director, costume designer and creator. Choreographer is Kari Jo Stevens; scene and set design and production is by Chris Lockwood, Jon Kobald, Ben Quinn and Gary Zellers; technical director is Bob Amick.
Tickets are $7 for all ages (children 5 and under are free) and may be purchased at the door on performance days. Elementary school students will be provided with a complementary free ticket but must be accompanied by an adult with a paid ticket.
The scope and cast size of this extraordinary musical production necessitates including veteran and first-time younger actors from elementary and middle school age thespians (who have appeared in the delightful productions of “The Little Mermaid,” “Hansel and Gretel,” et al) as well as adults of the Meeker community.
The Wizard of Oz production is the full Broadway “RSC” version that closely follows the renowned Academy Award-winning motion picture screen play produced in 1939 with all of the songs and scenes depicted in the original Technicolor film featuring renowned film actors Judy Garland, Bert Lahr, Ray Bolger, Frank Morgan and Margaret Hamilton.
“Wizard of Oz” songs include “We’re off to See the Wizard,” “Somewhere over the Rainbow,” “Ding-Dong the Witch is Dead” and the “Munchkin Land” musical sequence.
“The Wizard of Oz” is produced by special arrangement with Tams-Witmark productions.
Earlier large scale cast MHS Drama Club and community-based musicals of this type included “The Music Man” in 2002, “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” in 2003, and “Oklahoma!” in 2007.
It will put a smile on everyone’s face to attend the spring MHS Drama Club musical, “The Wizard of Oz!”
