MEEKER I The Meeker High School Drama Club and International Thespian Society Troupe 1284 will presents the Broadway Musical “FAME” at the Meeker High School Auditorium at 7 p.m. on May 22, 23 and 24.
“FAME” is based on the popular 1970s television and motion picture series about a New York City high school for the performing arts. It follows the lives and career aspirations of the teen-aged students who follow various career tracks in music, dance and acting and similar pursuits.
The challenges of a performing arts career include strong competitions for leading roles and key positions in those career pursuits, the heartbreak of losing a coveted role or starring position and the joy and exultation of landing a key role.
“FAME” tells the story of several students who attend New York City’s High School of Performing Arts, among them fame-obsessed Carmen, ambitious actress Serena, wisecracking comedian Joe, quiet saintly violinist Schlomo and “talented but dyslexic” dancer Tyrone.
The performance is also hilarious in highlighting the humor of the faculty members and students and the colorful personalities and emotions that accompany the gifted and talented students.
Veteran MHS Drama Club members will portray the various roles.
