MEEKER I Hard work, tenacity and simply a love for running have taken both Lathrop Hughes and Jake Boesch to this high point in their career on the Meeker cross country team. Regionals were held last Wednesday at the Confluence Park in Delta. Meeker brought a five-man team and the only female runner to the course.
“Delta is always a great race, the meet directors always have their act together,” says second year coach Sheri Kehr, “And the team had great personal records.”
State finalists Lathrop Hughes (senior) and Jake Boesch came in tenth and twelfth place after kicking past a group of five runners in the last quarter mile. The boys’ team unfortunately was inched out of being able to go to state by the Mancos team. Caleb Lange and Bailey Mantle (juniors) had PR’s of their own with 18:56 and 21:18. Sam Lange (freshman) came in with a PR of 22:40. Perye Walter (senior) struggled some at this race with a slower time compared to her awesome PR time of 35.0 at the Rifle meet last Thursday.
“Coach Casias and I are very pleased with the continuous achievements of these athletes,” Kehr said. “Going to the state meet is an honor and a responsibility to represent Meeker High School with pride.”
The CHSAA Cross Country State Meet will be held Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Norris Penrose Event Center in Colorado Springs. 2A region girls will run at 9:30 a.m. and William Scoggins (Rangely – regional first place winner), Lathrop Hughes and Jake Boesch will run at 11:30 a.m.
Please come and cheer your area athletes to victory!
