MEEKER I All but one of seven Meeker High School cross country runners competed in their first meet last Saturday in Delta, and head coach Kris Casey was happy with the results.
“I was very proud of our runners. They now all have a race under their belts and we can start setting some season goals,” Casey said. “Delta is a very flat course, so it was a good introduction to the sport.”
Returning senior Erica Roybal led the Meeker girls, while freshmen William Scoggins of Rangely led the boys and finished with the best time for the Cowboys.
“William had set a goal for himself before the race to run under 20 minutes and he was successful, finishing with a time of 19:52:39,” Casey said.
Roybal finished the 3.1-mile course in 24:40:77, freshman Savannah Johnson crossed the finish line in 25:43:30 and classmate Perye Walter finished in 37:27:97.
Freshman Lathrop Hughes ran the race in 21:50:02, sophomore Ean Barrow’s time was 22:30:47 and freshman Alex Smith finished in 24:07:09.
“We did well, but there is still lots of growth to be done during the season,” Casey said. “I’m excited for our next meet (Saturday in Basalt). Hopefully, now, some the nervousness will be gone and they will all have a bit more knowledge about the race and know what to expect.”
Hello,
I am curious as to the records board in the gymnasium in Meeker High School..
I was wondering if you could possibly tell me who hold the record listed on it for track records?
I am especially curious as to the records held by Matt Reel for track, and perhaps he had some
for football? Sorry, I do not remember the particulars, and am curious if he still holds those records.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
Stefanie Reel Smith
