MEEKER | On a “hilly course” in Hotchkiss, the Meeker High School cross country team ran last Saturday and the Cowboy runners continue to enjoy the challenge of each new course.
Meeker sophomore Briar Meszaros was the only girl to run for the Cowboys and according to coach Marty Casey, “She managed the hilly course in 26:45, which was good for 17th place.”
The eight Meeker boys were led by senior Matthew Beck, who finished in 23rd place, taking 20:59 to finish the race and Pake Burke was four places behind him. Josue Martinez was the 51st runner to cross the finish line, followed by freshmen Ashdon Siebert and Greg Jones.
“Ashdon and Greg ran together for a good part of the race and finished the same way,” coach Casey said, said of the rookies finishing in 59th and 60th place.
Sophomores Josh Dinwiddie and Zach Harman, along with freshman Josh Day, also represented the Cowboys, helping the boys’ team finish in seventh place.
“This was another new course for this group, mostly rolling terrain, with a few good climbs but nothing like last week,” Coach Casey said. “Everyone seemed to enjoy the variation. I saw some very good effort and plenty to build upon. I am excited to watch this team progress throughout the season.”
