MEEKER | Cowboy softball wrapped up its fourth season traveling across the mountains to Aurora for the state tournament to take on Lamar for their first game. In the top of the fourth the score was 4-6 Lamar. Megan Shelton went up to bat and hit a three-run homer to pull Meeker ahead 7-6. Meeker suffered a loss to Lamar earlier in the season 11-1, but they played hard for a “W” with a final score of 10-8.
Moving to the second round of a single elimination state tournament, Meeker was set to battle number three seeded Delta, who had just squeaked by Sterling 10-9. Heading into the third the lady Cowboys were down 3-0, then turned it around in the fifth inning and got the bats going to pull ahead 6-5.
The game was decided in the bottom of the seventh. Meeker was up 9-7, with Delta up to bat, there were two outs, two on base, and two strikes, followed by a huge home run by Delta that sealed the win for them with a final score of 10-9. It was a great season for the Cowboys, with a winning record of 15-11.
