MEEKER | In their last home game of the season, the MHS girls’ softball team played a doubleheader against Gunnison on Saturday, Oct. 1. The lady Cowboys won both games handily, the first in four and a half innings with a final score of 14-4, and the second 21-0 in three innings. Solid pitching from Tori Lasker and Sidney Shaffer including a shortened no-hitter by Shaffer in the second game. Offensive leaders of weekend were Megan Shelton, Sierra Williams, Julia Christensen, Gracie Bradfield and Mackenzie Marshall. As of this morning, the team is ranked No. 16 while playing in the 3A division. For the season Williams is leading the state in stolen bases in 3A. Megan Shelton is the sixth leading home run hitter and eighth in overall batting average in the state in 3A. “After a little bit of a slow start and being shorthanded for the first several games, we are finding our own and I am very excited about our opportunities as the playoffs begin next week,” coach Briana Williams said. The team will play Eagle Valley Friday at 4 p.m. in Eagle.
