MEEKER I After two more road wins against Moffat County and Hayden last week, the Meeker varsity volleyball team is now 12-3 overall, 7-1 in league play and currently ranked 10th in 2A by Maxpreps.com. Meeker played Grand Valley Tuesday and will host Vail Christian Saturday, which will be Meeker’s “Pink Out” game, in support of breast cancer awareness.
“We played well as a team and scrambled when needed,” Meeker head coach Janae Stanworth said of her team’s latest wins.
Meeker beat Moffat County in three straight games, 25-18, 25-16 and 25-17 and needed four games to beat Hayden (25-15, 25-23, 21-25 and 25-4).
“Reese Pertile led the team in kills against Moffat County with 12,” Stanworth said. “She did a great job on the net.”
Coach Stanworth also complimented the play of Lila Klinglesmith, Peyton Burke and Krissie Luce, saying; “They did a good job adjusting on defense and covering.”
Luce led the team with 25 digs, Burke and Klinglesmith both had 17.
Meeker needed four games to beat Hayden but after losing the third game by four points, the lady Cowboys only allowed Hayden to score four points, dominating the Tigers in the final game.
“We passed very well in serve receive,” coach Stanworth said. “Kassie Luce and Maggie Phelan did a good job of moving the ball around.”
Kassie Luce was credited with 17 assists against Hayden and Phelan assisted 13 times. Burke recorded 21 digs against Hayden, Phelan had 20 and Avery Watt had 16. Pertile also had 12 kills against Hayden, while Kassie and Krissie Luce had nine and eight respectively.
Coach Stanworth would like to invite everyone to Saturday’s game and to “please wear pink to help support and raise awareness.”
