MEEKER I Meeker was well represented at the Colorado Coaches of Girls Sports All-State Games last weekend in Denver.
MHS volleyball coach Christy Atwood was asked to coach the 2A Red Team and Meeker seniors Aly Ridings and Piper Haney were members of the team.
Atwood said, “What a great weekend! It is such an honor to be asked to coach the games and twice as special when not one but two of your players get to play.”
The weekend began with team pictures and a meeting on Saturday morning and practice time in the afternoon. The team then got to scrimmage against 1A, 3A and 5A teams.
Atwood said, “We were able to find comfortable positions on the floor and had a great time just playing the game. Saturday night was an awards banquet and the girls were pleased to sit at the same table with Haleigh Washington, a 5A player who has signed to play for Penn State.”
Sunday was game day as the teams played against their opposing classification team (2A blue vs. 2A red). The Meeker girls did not win their match but certainly had a great time.
Atwood said, “It was fun for me to see the girls leave the gym beaming with smiles from their experience and bonds of newly found friendship that will carry them on in the next step of their journey.”
