MEEKER I The Meeker High School cross country program has several new faces, including its coach, and they will all be in Delta to open the season Friday.
“I’m pretty excited about the first meet and the season,” new head coach Marty Casey said. “We have some good talent and it will be nice to get a meet or two under their belts, especially for our newcomers.
The Cowboys return four-year veterans Bailey Mantle and Caleb Lange along with senior classmates Aaron Cochran and Katie Harman and second-year runner Sam Lange. The others are new to the program.
Casey said there are eight boys and five girls out for the team, adding, “I’m excited about the numbers.”
Casey said the team has a few marked routes they practice on and they have enjoyed running on the trails in the Jensen Memorial Park.
“What a great resource,” Casey said of the new trails.
Casey’s wife, Kris, John Strate and Terrance Casias are volunteering their time to assist.
“I’ve been pleased so far with the effort from everyone, and I think we can do some good this season,” Casey said.
