RBC I Ten Rio Blanco middle school wrestlers, including eight from Rangely, wrestled in the Western Slope Regional Tournament over the weekend in Grand Junction. Nine of those 10 wrestlers qualified for the state tournament in Denver this weekend.
Jacob Dodd, Braxton Moore, Dontea Pearce, Tytus Coombs, Justin Rusher, Hunter Hanvey, Dalton Dembowski and Zane Varner all represented Rangely Middle School and all but Varner qualified for the state tournament.
“Zane is only a sixth-grader and a good wrestler; he will be there next year,” head coach Jeff LeBleu said.
Meeker’s Barone Middle School was represented by eighth-grader Tevin Pelloni and sixth-grader Kelton Turner, who both qualified for state. Pelloni finished second and Turner placed third.
“Both boys got seven matches in,” BMS coach Todd Morris said.
The state tournament will start Friday afternoon and run all day Saturday.
“The state tournament will be a tough one and just the exposure to the big stage will be an awesome experience for them,” Coach LeBleu said.
