RBC I Military veterans can qualify for a higher Social Security payment for active duty from 1957 through 2001 (the program ended Jan. 1, 2002).
Veterans can receive up to $1,200 per year of earnings credit at time of application, which can make a substantial difference in Social Security monthly payments upon retirement.
For veterans whose military service was between 1957 and 1967, they can bring their DD-214 to the Social Security Office and ask to receive this benefit. For service between 1968 and 2001, the records of military veterans were automatically credited.
