Monument holds night sky viewing

DINOSAUR | Dinosaur National Monument is excited about the kick-off of its summer’s night sky program.
From now through August and into September, the sky-gazing and informational program will be held every Wednesday and Saturday, beginning at 9:45 p.m. at the south end of Split Mountain Campground in the national monument. Park officials say more days may be added when an additional astronomy volunteer arrives in a couple weeks.
The public can park outside of the gate so there is very little interference from headlights. Someone from the monument will be at the gate to greet folks and give them red cellophane for their flashlights and point them in the right direction.
There will be a bit of constellation identification, a couple of stories and then the rest of the evening will be more free-form as folks look through the telescopes.
Weather permitting, astronomy experts will answer more questions and tell more constellation stories, wrapping up the evening’s presentation by 10:45 p.m.
