DINOSAUR — Dinosaur National Monument plans to open the Harpers Corner Road and the Green River Campground at 5 p.m. on April 10.
“Generally, we try to get the Harpers Corner Road open by the Easter weekend barring any heavy snow,” said superintendent Mary Risser.
The Harpers Corner Road is a 32-mile road that leads to the heart of Dinosaur National Monument’s canyon country.
Several overlooks provide sweeping vistas of the Green and Yampa river canyons. Two trails along the road lead to the canyon rim, allowing a closer look at the Green River more than 2,000 feet below and into the ragged Split Mountain Gorge. Use caution when hiking these trails in the spring.
Lingering snow and wet conditions may make the trail slippery in places. A guide to the Harpers Corner Scenic Drive is available for 50 cents at the entry kiosk near Dinosaur.
