MEEKER I Incoming senior Trey Morris and Ty Shepherd, who will be a sophomore this year, have been spending part of their summer on golf courses.
Morris, a two-time state high school golf qualifier for the Cowboys, has been golfing in the Ace Foundation sponsored summer tournaments the past four years and has already golfed in three tournaments this summer and Shepherd has golfed in two.
The Ace Foundation tournaments are for high school students across the state of Colorado, competing against each other using handicaps.
Morris won the Craig tournament with an 84 on the 72-par course, put up a 76 on the 71-par course finishing second at Tiara Rado in Grand Junction two weeks ago and placed third earlier this week in Delta with a 77. Shepherd golfed in Grand Junction and Delta but did not place. The two practice daily at the Meeker Golf Course and plan to golf next week in Battlement Mesa.
A state qualifier will be held in Montrose and the Ace Foundations state championship will be held at Bookcliff Country Club in Grand Junction, in July.
