MEEKER I At an executive session of the Meeker School District Board of Education on Jan. 20, the board upheld the year-long expulsion of two female students at Barone Middle School.
The board met with the students and their parents regarding the expulsion, as recommended by the district administration.
The students were implicated in the two incidents reported last month of non-prescribed prescription narcotics being provided to other students at Barone, resulting in three students being hospitalized.
No names have been nor will be released as all are juveniles.
The expulsion of the female students, 12 and 13 years old, was endorsed by the school board with the possibility of abeyance. Abeyance means that the girls might be allowed back into school before the year is up if they display proper conduct and compliance with the provisions of their expulsion, district Superintendent Mark Meyer said.
Middle School Principal Jim Hanks said last month that by a large majority the kids in his school “are outstanding.”
“Out of about 200 kids, maybe five are struggling with their identity, struggling with what’s right and wrong,” he said. “Everybody tests the boundaries.”
Meeker Police Chief Bob Hervey said that the question of where the girls originally acquired the drugs has still not been answered.
