MEEKER I The Meeker Board of Education has set an open public forum for Tuesday evening, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., in the board room at the School District Administration Building, 555 Garfield St.
Board President Bill deVergie said, “The board is looking for vision and ideas moving forward for the Meeker School District.”
MSD Board Member Todd Shults, who pushed for this effort at community engagement, said that his worst fear as a new school board member was that the board would lose the public trust and confidence.
Shults sees the loss of the Amendment 3A mill levy override election in November as evidence that the Meeker community trust in the board isn’t there. He wants interested citizens to show up at this public forum and tell the board what’s on their minds and how the board can rebuild that trust.
“What are we doing right and what we could do better?” he asked.
The forum will be open comment time with no ties or limitations due to any agenda items.
Shults said, “This is an opportunity to share what they want us to hear and to tell the board as a whole, not just one of them in passing at the grocery store or the post office.”
The public forum will be followed by the board’s executive session evaluation of Superintendent Mark Meyer from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. with the regular board meeting at 7:30.
