MEEKER — Over the July 4 weekend, the museum and historical society will be hosting their usual activities.
The Range Call committee has lined up a great weekend. The Meeker Massacre Pageant will be at dusk at the fairgrounds Thursday, July 3. The parade will be on Friday, July 4 at 10 a.m. The museum will run its stagecoach in the parade.
On Saturday, the July 5, we will host the annual bank robbery re-enactment at 10 a.m. in the intersection of Sixth and Main streets, and right after that the historical society will be selling root beer floats on the courthouse lawn.
Curator Ardith Douglas reports 1,521 visitors to the museum through May.
David Steinman and Joe Sullivan have been working non-stop on the Milk Creek Battlefield Park project. The Rio Blanco County Road and Bridge Department, the Rio Blanco County Commissioners and several companies have chipped in to help with this undertaking.
The reprinted “This Is What I Remember” books, Volumes 1-3 are on sale. In addition to selling them at the museum, there are copies for sale at stores in Meeker and other museums.
The museum also has the book “Ropin the Past” which is a compilation of writings by the late Richard Lyttle. Read the biography of Nettie Faye Burke Modlin. It represents ongoing work of Sandy Simko and others in recording our oral histories.
