MEEKER | The Meeker Mustangs hosted our Rio Blanco County neighbors, the Rangely Panthers, under the lights of Starbuck Stadium on Saturday. Up first, the Meeker Gold 3rd/4th team sought to avenge a previous Meeker Black loss to the Panthers. Well matched, these two determined teams battled to a 6-6 tie at the end of regulation. Taking the first possession in overtime, Meeker Gold punched in the end zone with authority. The Panthers did not match up in their possession, giving the home team a victory.
The 5th/6th grade Meeker team worked hard mentally and physically all week in preparation for the matchup with RBC rivals. Relaxed and confident, Meeker quickly took control of the game despite the Panthers well coached, physical attack. A well balanced game plan saw all Meeker team members contributing on both sides of the ball. A great pair of victories for the home teams in a rare “under the lights” fall classic.
