Myth: Eating sugar causes diabetes.
Fact: Diabetes is a disease in which the body doesn’t produce or properly use insulin. The cause of diabetes is still unknown, although genetics and environmental factors such as obesity and lack of exercise appear to play roles.
Research shows people who are overweight and obese are at increased risk for diabetes.
