MEEKER I The town of Meeker’s board of trustees named Scott Mezsaros as their choice for the new town administrator, effective April 2. Meszaros will replace longtime administrator Sharon Day, who celebrated 30 years working for the town in 2011.
“The board of trustees deliberated heavily on the candidates before making their final choice — taking into consideration education, experience in municipal government, community involvement, leadership experience and being a ‘good fit’ for Meeker,” said Mayor Mandi Etheridge.
Mezsaros is currently serving as the town clerk for Monument, Colo., in El Paso County. Monument, population 6,800, is one of the oldest communities in the state, established in 1879.
Mezsaros was one of four candidates chosen from more than 30 applicants who were brought to Meeker last month to tour the town, attend a public reception at town hall and the Meeker Chamber of Commerce annual dinner. The candidates were interviewed by the board of trustees and a panel made up of town staff members.
Mezsaros has a master’s degree in public administration from Troy State University and a bachelor’s degree from Colorado State University.
He signed a final contract with the town Thursday, Feb. 23 and will begin working for the Town of Meeker on Monday, April 2.
According to Etheridge, Mezsaros is “very excited” about moving to Meeker with his wife and three children, and “is looking forward to serving our community.”
