New childcare center to open

MEEKER I New Creation Church of Meeker is starting a child development center scheduled to open Sept. 10. The idea is to offer a preschool as well as day care service. The center is located on 388 Ninth Street in Meeker on the southeast corner of Ninth and Park streets. The center is accepting children ages 2-1/2 to 6 years old, providing a preschool environment for the 4- to 6-year-olds in the morning. The afternoon will be play-based time.
Mickie Slaugh is the director/teacher for the 4- to 6-year-olds. She was formerly a speech and preschool aide for BOCES. Her experience and desire to work with children makes this a perfect opportunity to use her skills. She has been volunteering all summer to help get the center started. Sue Taylor will be the financial director, also offering a great deal of experience to the team. Beth Willey will be the the director for the 2-1/2- to 3-year-olds. She previously worked for the day care center in Meeker as well as many years for the Eastern Rio Blanco Recreation District working with kids of all ages.
