MEEKER | Nancy Owens has embarked on a long-held dream with the opening of Sophie Ann Designs—a new girls’ and women’s clothing store in Meeker.
“The timing was never right,” Owens, a Meeker native who returned in 2009 and has since been the manager of the Meeker Hotel and Cafe and a server at Outfitter’s Diner. In the meantime, she did her research, lining up suppliers and planning ahead, which prepared her for a quick launch last month. Asked how her first month in business has gone, Owens said, “It’s been amazing.”
She’s also enjoying working with her daughter, Jenna Holt, who also recently returned to Meeker.
The boutique, which carries girls’ and women’s clothing from size 2T to 3X, as well as shoes, purses, cosmetics, and some gifts and toys, is located in the Main Street Building at the corner of Seventh and Main (formerly the Whiteman Building).
“It used to be a lab for USGS,” Owens said of the converted space, which includes a spacious dressing room for trying on apparel.
That apparel includes factory seconds from Cinch, Harley, Cruel and Lucky brand jeans, as well as sweaters, outerwear and more.
“We try to get new things in every week,” she said, adding that everything is under $50, providing a low price-point “so people can shop at home.”
Sophie Ann Designs—named after Owens’ beloved long-haired dachshund—is open on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
